Domain Whois Privacy – Your Questions…

.com

Lisa asks…

who is and on mac how to get privacy of my website/where to buy domain and host?

Hello,

I am trying to build a website. I use a macbook

I want to register something like example.co.uk and a example.com, and just use the .co.uk address as my website, and if anyone types my address as .com they get redirected to .co.uk or even just have an error page as I think that will be free as no hosting?? If you could clarify this for me i’d be grateful.

I noticed that for .co.uk you cannot have whois privacy.(at least on the websites I looked on) This is my main reason for posting today, as I want my details kept private for both websites, and I want hosting for .co.uk

I am using iWeb to put my site together and I from what I understand I don’t have to use .mac so I have to use a host with FTP.

Anyone know any good ones to use? I’d rather buy domain and get hosting from same company instead of 2 different ones.
I have had a look around and don’t seem to be getting anywhere.

1&1 has always been a good place to buy domains for me. As for hosting, I’m using MediaTemple.

Register Domain Name Google – Your Questions…

Susan asks…

Can you register a domain name without starting a website?

I have a great idea for a website, but unfortunately I don’t know how to build the one that I want. I like the name so much that I want to register the name before someone else gets the name. Then when I do start the site I will already have the name registered. But can I do that? And who can I register it with? Who does Yahoo! and Google register their names with I wonder?

admin answers:

Yes, a lot of people own domain names without websites. You just need to go to a registar service that sells them. The biggest player in the game is Network Solutions, but they are usually more expensive. GoDaddy.com is a great service and has great prices, it is what I register my domains with. When ordering, just make sure you do a DOMAIN REGISTRATION and don’t add any other service (GoDaddy will try to sell you TONS of add-ons). When you are ready to start the website, then you can look into hosting services and the extra services. If you still have trouble online, pickup the phone and call them, they have good sales support. Beware the “up-sales” though.
