If ICANN is a “non-profit” organization, why do they add a 20 cent fee on every domain, and where do the other $6 or so go for domain names?
Most likely to server costs
but than again , ICANN might be free , some other compan involved in the domain might not be.

I’m looking for a host with decent support and one that won’t mess around by increasing charges after a year automatically, shutting my sites down without consent or is down all the time.

I’d recommend ICDSoft. They’ve been around for many years, and they won’t be shutting down any time soon. Their customer service is top-notch. And they don’t lure you in with dirt-cheap prices only to raise the price later or go out of business the next year. Their prices are still affordable, though.
