Private Domain Registration – Your Questions…

Ruth asks…

Private domain registration vs public…Is private registration important?

I’m purchasing a domain name from godaddy and I’m confused as to whether or not paying extra for a private registration is worth it. I understand that if I list under public it will be published in the whois directory but I’m not sure I see the advantage of listing private. Is my business address and name the only thing I’m hiding by going private or is there more to it than that? I would appreciate anyone who could clarify this. Please keep in mind that I’m not the most savy with technology “lingo”. Thanks!

admin answers:

I did this and went PRIVATE. The core of all of that information *could be* your Social Security #. Spend the extra few dollars to be safe. There are some top level hackers in this day and age.

Domain Name Registration Google – Your Questions…

Google

Linda asks…

Does the length of your domain registration affect your google ranking?

I’ve heard for example that if i renew my site for 3 years it will rank higher than renewing my domain name for 1 year. Is this true?

admin answers:

The exact details of how Google ranks pages is kept a secret so there is not way to know for sure, but people who have studied Google’s patents and other document believe that domain registration could have an effect. Since Google is trying to find “quality” pages, a longer domain registration would indicate a bigger commitment to maintaining the page long term.
